Maria Besse/Thomas Besse/Bernd Goelzer: The Court Book of the Town of Hornbach from 1753 to 1790 – The contract protocols of the voluntary jurisdiction and inhabitant's lists of the 18th century. Published by the Zweibruecken Working Group for Family History, 425 pages, hardcover, gauze binding, digital print, 12 colored pages, 4 maps, Saarbruecken 2003, ISBN 3-00-011467-X; EURO 22.50.

After the publication of the book "Major Office Invoices of the Town of Hornbach and Inhabitant Lists from 1633 to 1700" the author team Dr Maria Besse, Thomas Besse and Dr Bernd Goelzer has compiled yet another source of information for the village of Hornbach, the Court Book of the town of Hornbach from 1753 to 1790. The 843 abstracted transactions are personal completions real estate contracts. From these documents urban and economic changes can be traced during this time frame. They provide an insight into the social structure of the town Hornbach prior to the French Revolution. Therefore these documents are of interest to historians as well as those in the legal professions since they deal with “Land Register Right”. The Court Book of Hornbach provides many locations and families by given names and surnames. The parties in the contracts are identified by name, residence and place of origin (11 pages of names). This is of special interest to name and family researchers. Not only are the inhabitants of Hornbach listed, but also persons from surrounding locations including Zweibruecken. Also included are locations that are now part of Saarland and Lothringen (Lorraine). The book contains 7 chapters. The introduction has 5 subchapters, which explain how to interpret the format of the contracts, the currency and measures used, due dates for payments and interest, the town population, names of people and locations. Also included are partial views of published area maps and descriptions by “Renovator” SUNDAHL, dated 1726. The inhabitant lists of 1776-1790 during the reign of the Duke Carl II August, as well as the law from the period covered in the book, a register of occupations and functions and a chronicle of houses with a map of the SPENER houses complete the book.
